Modern life is hectic, isn’t it? Most people are juggling several things at any given moment. Work, and family. Phone calls, and emails. Getting your house clean, and cooking dinner. Whew! It’s no wonder that the same problems come up for us again and again. Finding time to break negative patterns or figure out where the problem is coming from, exactly, is pretty difficult.
Your session is an hour in your week where all you have to do is focus on yourself and your own needs.
When you begin therapy, we will talk about what you’d like to change in your life. What needs to happen to align your life as you live it more closely with your values and goals–your image of what makes a life worth living? We will also construct a treatment plan which outlines specific goals for change.
This treatment plan, along with whatever is going on in your life at any given time, will determine how we spend our sessions. You should walk out of therapy feeling like you are more prepared to thrive than you were at the start of our session.
From time to time, we may decide to include someone else in your session–a family member or partner, for example–but generally speaking, individual therapy is all about you and you alone.
